Limassol is developing at a breakneck pace. The entire city resembles one vast construction site, with new buildings springing up in every neighbourhood.
Rapid growth and the arrival of numerous companies in Limassol have led to an increase in population, housing needs and rental prices, creating a gap between the supply of and demand for residential units.
To help address this issue, the Limassol District Local Government Organisation (EOA Limassol) is placing particular emphasis on the licensing of residential units. As a result, during the first half of 2026, more residential units were licensed in Limassol than in any other district, exceeding 3,500 units and recording an impressive 62% increase compared with the same period in 2025.
Progress in Limassol’s construction activity is reflected in the official figures published by the Statistical Service of Cyprus.
During the first half of 2026, a total of 1,208 building permits were issued in Limassol, compared with 900 during the corresponding period in 2025, representing an increase of 35%.
The total licensed floor area reached 720,000 square metres, up by 35%, while the total value of licensed projects amounted to €853 million, also marking an increase of 35%.
Limassol ranks first nationwide in both of these key indicators of development.
This progress does not diminish the difficulties that residents and professionals in the city continue to face, nor does it lessen the need for faster and more efficient examination of licensing applications.
A meaningful assessment of the situation cannot be limited to presenting percentage changes and monthly results. The real challenge is to ensure that the momentum reflected in these figures translates into tangible benefits for citizens and meets the needs and expectations of society and the economy.
The consistent objective remains to provide better services to citizens and support the economy by improving the efficiency of the licensing process, strengthening internal organisation, adopting a science-based approach to planning, making rational use of available resources, improving coordination between departments, and ensuring merit-based recruitment through the careful selection of personnel.
EOA Limassol supports a city that is growing at a rapid pace and evolving into a modern, vibrant urban centre and an international business hub.
