Works Begin on the Replacement of 100 Kilometres of the Water Distribution Network in Central Limassol with €9.2 Million in EU Funding.

Construction works have commenced for the replacement of 100 kilometres of the water distribution network in central Limassol, a project co-funded by the European Union with a budget of €9.2 million.

The project involves the replacement of the existing water distribution network in central Limassol, where the infrastructure has become outdated and is characterized by a high number of failures and significant water losses.

As part of the project, a new drinking water distribution network will be installed using modern, high-quality materials. The main works include the installation of new water pipelines, excavation and backfilling works, as well as the reinstatement of roads and pavements across an area of approximately 2.6 square kilometres.

The new network will:

  • cover 220 streets;

  • extend over 100 kilometres; and

  • serve a population of approximately 40,000 residents.

Project Boundaries

The project area extends:

  • from the Enaerios area, along Archbishop Makarios III Avenue to the Central Fire Station;

  • from the Central Fire Station, along the Garillis River channel to Yildiz Street (Tessera Fanaria);

  • from Tessera Fanaria, along Yildiz, Navarinou, Eirinis, 16th June and Gladstonos Streets to Pentadromos; and

  • from Pentadromos, along Anexartisias Street to the seafront avenue.

The Limassol District Local Government Organisation (EOA Limassol) successfully secured funding from the European Union Cohesion Fund through the THALEIA 2021–2027 Programme. The project forms part of the broader strategy to modernise and upgrade the city's essential infrastructure.

Upon completion, the project is expected to deliver significant benefits, including:

  • reducing water network failures and water losses;

  • lowering operating and maintenance costs through improved network efficiency;

  • enhancing the quality and reliability of services provided to consumers; and

  • ensuring higher-quality drinking water through modern infrastructure

This is a project that will substantially improve the daily lives of Limassol's residents.
