---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A major infrastructure project that is expected to radically transform the daily lives and quality of life of Palodia residents is entering the implementation phase. The Limassol District Local Government Organisation has commenced the construction of the Sewerage and Stormwater Drainage System, marking a new era of development, modernization, and environmental protection for the community.
Key Project Features
Total Construction Cost: €9.5 million (excluding VAT)
Contractor: Cybarco Contracting Ltd
Design & Supervision: Joint Venture of ROIKOS S.A. – Z&A P. Antonaropoulos and Partners S.A.
Project Start Date: March 2025
Construction Duration: 30 months
Population Served: Approximately 4,500 residents
Technical Specifications
The project includes:
28 kilometers of gravity sewer pipelines
Construction of 3 small pumping stations
1.5 kilometers of stormwater drainage pipelines to address flooding from heavy rainfall
The first network, with a total length of approximately 4 km following the new additions that have been implemented, serves part of the southern area of Palodia, including the light industrial area. It will be connected to a provision point on the existing main collector sewer of the Agia Fylaxeos wastewater network at the junction of Eleftherias Avenue (Road 110) and Myrras Street.
The second network serves the remaining area of Palodia and has a total length of approximately 24 km. It will be connected to an existing pipeline near the junction of SR-A1(C1-6/8) (the Saittas–Limassol motorway) and Kapsalon Street.
The present project also includes part of the designed stormwater drainage network, comprising gravity pipelines with diameters ranging from DN600 to DN1500 and a total length of approximately 1.5 km, of which 0.7 km consists of new pipelines and 0.8 km involves the replacement of existing pipelines. The new stormwater network will include approximately 40 new inspection manholes (on both new and existing pipelines) and 75 new stormwater catch basins.
Funding
The sewerage system is funded 80% by government resources and 20% by the Limassol District Local Government Organisation.
The stormwater drainage system is financed through special levies imposed on the community for the management of stormwater.
Benefits
Sewerage and stormwater drainage projects are a cornerstone of every modern society. They are essential infrastructure for public health, environmental protection, and sustainable urban development.
With the operation of the new system:
Septic tanks and absorption pits will be phased out, eliminating overflow and odor issues.
Sanitary and environmental conditions will be significantly improved.
The groundwater table and subsoil will be protected.
Flood risks will be mitigated through proper channeling of rainwater to natural outflows.
The community of Palodia, a vibrant and growing area in the greater Limassol region, is entering a path of modernization — with projects that not only solve long-standing problems but also lay the groundwork for a healthier, safer, and higher-quality urban environment.
The Limassol District Local Government Organisation remains firmly committed to implementing meaningful projects — projects that address real citizen needs and safeguard the future of our communities.
