Η συμμετοχή της Κύπρου στη διοργάνωση «STOCKHOLM JUNIOR WATER PRIZE» στη Σουηδία

The Water Museum of the Water Board of Lemesos is the National Organiser of the Stockholm Junior Water Prize Competition (SJWP) in Cyprus.

Every year, the SJWP Competition is part of the "World Water Week" International Conference, which was held from 19 to 24 August 2023 in Stockholm. The SJWP Competition was held under the patronage of Princess Victoria of Sweden and it was attended by groups of students from 31 countries.

The team that represented Cyprus in the above competition was students Eleni Makri and Themis Themistokleous. The responsible teacher was Mrs. Christina Aristodemou.

The students’ work was titled “Natural seagrass residues transformed into a phosphorous absorbing ally by becoming a fertilizer. The two above students, like the rest of the students from all over the world, had the opportunity to be hosted by the organizers in Stockholm. During the 7 days of their stay in Stockholm, the students had a rich program full of events and activities.

Contestants prepared e-posters that were displayed in a special exhibition area during the International Conference. The International Jury reviewed the submitted papers and interviewed each competing team individually. The award of the winning team was based on the work submitted as well as the oral presentation. This year's winner was Naomi Park from the USA with her research on the removal of carbon dioxide and oil products from the ocean. In her research, Naomi Park has developed a method to simultaneously remove these contaminants.
