Water Innovators
DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE COMPETITION?

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can take part?

The Competition is open to lower secondary school students in Cyprus.

Do I take part individually or as part of a team?

Students take part in teams, in accordance with the team size and participation requirements set out in the Competition Announcement.

Can more than one team from the same school take part?

Yes, provided that the participation requirements are met and each team has the necessary support from a supervising teacher.

I am a student. Can I take part in two teams?

No. Each student can participate in only one team.

Do I need to have an idea already?

No. You do not need to have a ready-made idea from the start. The process begins by identifying a real problem and exploring creative and innovative ways to address it.

What kind of problems can I work on?

You can focus on a real challenge related to water, such as water conservation, protection, quality, management or use.

What does an “innovative solution” mean?

It does not necessarily mean creating something that has never existed before. It means thinking of a new, different or improved way to address a real problem.

Do I have to build a real device?

Not necessarily. The form of your proposal depends on your idea. It could involve a device, product, app, process or another creative solution.

Can I use materials or ideas that already exist?

Yes. Innovation can come from the way you combine, adapt, improve or apply existing materials, technologies or ideas.

What language can I use for my project?

Projects can be submitted in Greek or English.

What is the teacher’s role?

The teacher acts as a mentor and guide. They help students organise their research, explore their ideas and develop their solution, while allowing the students to take the lead.

How will the projects be evaluated?

Projects will be evaluated by a judging panel according to the criteria set out in the Competition Announcement, including factors such as understanding of the problem, innovation, creativity, research and the potential application of the proposed solution.

Where can I find more information?

All information about the participation requirements, Competition stages, key dates and submission process can be found in the Water Innovators Competition Announcement.
